Current Research Title
Narratives of service and sacrifice for the Nation: Punjab and the Pakistan Military
Current Research Abstract
Locating military and militarization as a major site where nationalist ideologies and practices of gender affix the figures of the heroic soldier and the grieving mother, to state making, my research aims to show that the relationships between subjects and the powers that form them are contingent and mutually constitutive. The research is an analysis of militarized societies taking Pakistan as case study and attempts to provide a gendered view from below by studying junior and non commissioned soldiers within the Army and the mothers of martyrs.
